Wall of Intimidation.

It's not your imagination. That polish bar at your corner nail place keeps getting bigger and bigger. What used to take mere seconds-choosing a fun, flattering shade-can easily snatch 10 minutes of your precious manicure time if you don't have a solid game plan. Follow these three tips to get you polished...

1. Use A Process Of Elimination "Narrow down your colour selection to just one category-whether pink, red, coral,or burgundy." Stay focused on that palette:"Otherwise you'll get lost!" 2. Now Put The Colour To The Test Since polish shades tend to look different in the bottle than on your nails, " brush on two similar colours to see which one works better with your skin tone". 3. And Never Be Afraid To Layer If you're debating between two colours, ask your nail technician to app;u pne coat f each. " Some of the most gorgeous shades are created by layering two polishes on top of each other."

Stick'Em Up.

Pharmacies are upping their style cred, offering at home alternatives to the super popular Minx manicure. So when regular old polish is just too, well, monochromatic, you can slap on a metallic cheetah print or graphic camouflage design.

After Katy Perry went made for minx, the company returned the love with these custom designs-that's husband Russell Brand's face on her digits.

OPI, Nail Polish, History.

Egyptians used nail color to signify social order, with shades of red at the top. Queen Nefertiti, the wife of the king Akhenaton, colored her fingernails and toenails ruby red; Cleopatra favored crimson. Women of lower rank who colored their nails were permitted only pale colors.

By the turn of the 19th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils, and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply painted. English and US 19th century cookbooks had directions for making nail paints. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, women pursued a polished, rather than painted, look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny. One such polishing product sold around this time was Graf's Hyglo nail polish paste. Some women during this period painted their nails with clear, glossy varnish applied with a camel-hair brush. When automobile paint was created around 1920, it inspired the introduction of colored nail enamels.

Japanese Art Nails.

Nail art has been popular in Japan since the mid-90s and the style is increasing in popularity in the US and other parts of the world too now. This isn't your staid French manicure on a sports-length acrylic nail either.
In Japanese nail art, the artists use hand-painting or airbrush techniques on on acrylic nail chips that are then attached to the real nail underneath. The artwork work can also be done directly on the hand and feet.
For Japanese Art Nails, While most of the two-dimensional art is designed to give some depth and the impression of three dimensions, actual 3-dimensional art is practiced as well -- using sculpture powder and the addition of charms and small bits of jewelry.
